Coach Maury John of Drake taught what he called 'Belly-Button Defense'. It emphasized belly-up, face-to-face defense with an emphasis on total ball denial. One of Coach John's players, Dale Teeter, tells the story of Iowa's Sam Williams literally quitting. He walked off the floor and sat on the bench while the game was going on. To make it worse, Williams' man in Drake's defense followed him all the way to the bench.
