The NCAA declared UNLV ineligible for post-season play in 1992, as the result of violations committed several years earlier. Gosh,
who would think that having an assistant coach declared the legal guardian of a recruit (Lloyd Daniels) would work out poorly?
The biggest problem Tarkanian had was that his own administration turned on him. The President of the University (Robert Maxson) wanted
the NCAA to punish Tark, and brought in an Athletic Director (Dennis Finfrock) whose only goal in life was to leak bad information
about Tarkanian to the newspapers. The NCAA couldn't put together the case, but Maxson and Finfrock did it for them.
Players on the 1991-1992 UNLV team were so mad at UNLV's administration and its treatment of Jerry Tarkanian, that they did
not want the letters "UNLV" to appear on their jerseys. The team voted to have their jerseys say "Home" and "Away". Tarkanian vetoed
the idea.
However, the official polo shirts which the coaches wore did not have the letters "UNLV" on them.
